Rajdarbar means the royal court, and the centrepiece is built like something made for one: an upright rectangle, framed and formal, rather than the rounded or floral shapes most sets use. Rectangular pendants of this kind belong to the Rajwadi tradition of northern India, where the frame itself was the statement and the fringe below it did the rest of the work.
Two fine gold-toned chains run in parallel from the shoulders, both hung along their length with small ivory-toned clusters and evenly spaced bottle-green ovals. They meet a large upright rectangular centrepiece in an antique gold-toned finish, its border a frame of small deep red squares, its face filled with pale clear detail around a single bottle-green oval at the middle, and a small crown-shaped crest above it. Below the rectangle hangs a wide fan of gold-toned capped bottle-green drops interleaved with ivory-toned clusters. The matching earrings are small domed drops in the same red and green.
The double chain gives it length, so it is a wedding and reception piece worn over a fitted blouse rather than under a dupatta. The formal rectangle suits older, heavier silks better than light chiffon, and the red and green combination is the traditional pairing for Rajwadi and Marwari wedding dressing. Keep the rest of the look simple: this one does not need a second necklace.
