Rajkumari means princess and Gulnaar takes its name from the pomegranate flower, though the colour here reads brighter than that: a clear magenta-pink running right around the collar. The set follows the Pachi Kundan tradition, where flat-cut stones are set into gold-toned panels one at a time and the metal is worked up around each stone to hold it. It is a choker, made to sit close at the base of the neck rather than spread across the chest.
The choker is bright gold-toned throughout and sits flat in a shallow U at the base of the neck. Its band is a run of panels set with flat-cut magenta-pink stones in pinwheel and petal clusters, with single deep-blue-toned rounds scattered through them and tight clusters of tiny white pearl-look beads packed into the gaps. At the centre is a round medallion: eight clear Polki-style stones set as petals around one deep-blue-toned round, rimmed twice in pearl-look beads. Fan-shaped drops hang along the bottom edge, each finishing in a pearl-look fringe and a polished gold-toned ball. The matching jhumkas repeat the medallion above a bell-shaped dome.
A choker like this is made for close-up occasions: engagement ceremonies, receptions, sangeet nights and Diwali or Karwa Chauth dinners. It needs a high or open neckline that leaves the collar clear, so a lehenga choli, a silk saree or a fitted Anarkali all work. The pink sits well against ivory, cream, deep green or navy, and the blue-toned centres pick up a navy or teal outfit. Wear it with the matching jhumkas and little else.
