Neelkamal means blue lotus, and the set is built the way the flower is: petals repeating around a centre, the same shape again and again rather than one large bloom. A row of round gold-toned medallions runs right around the collar, each one opening into four petals around a deep blue centre. There is no single pendant to look at. The interest is in the repetition, which is what gives the piece its calm, and what the name is pointing to.
The collar is worked in a clean, bright gold-toned finish and sits high in a deep U against the neck. Its structure is a continuous row of round medallions, at least nine across the front and carrying on around the sides. Each disc holds four clear flat-cut Kundan-style petals set as a quatrefoil around a small deep-blue-toned centre stone. Short pins capped with upright pearl-look beads rise between the discs, scalloping the top edge, and a thick band of pearl-look bead clusters banks beneath them. The lower edge is a close fringe of oval translucent cornflower-blue drops. Matching danglers repeat the medallion above three of the same blue drops.
It suits the daytime and early-evening end of the calendar: engagement lunches, puja mornings, Navratri, Eid gatherings and the wedding functions where you want colour without weight. The blue and gold-toned pairing sits cleanly against white, ivory, cream and pale blue, and the collar reads well over a plain silk saree or a simple Anarkali. Choose a wide neckline so the deep U has room to sit, and keep the rest of your jewellery light.
